Now, that’s not to say that you should never work at a car dealership or similar sales profession as the experience will definitely make it much easier for you to adjust and become successful on your own. Experience – especially sales or auto sales experience – will definitely be a major asset to your future. In any business or job the better you are at sales the better you will do, and this definitely 100% applies here.
Now there are many ways to get access to used cars and for beginners you will probably begin by looking in the classifieds, placing ads that you buy cars for cash, drive around looking at cars marked for sale (they are everywhere), etc… Before I get too much into buying and selling cars we have to address laws and regulations which are mostly in place to protect the consumer and that there is a better and much easier way of obtaining cars.
In recent years, sales of automobiles have come under more scrutiny and there is added regulation in most states (especially states like California, Texas, Arizona and New York). So you can’t plan on going out this weekend and buying and selling 20 cars. You have to first learn about and abide by your state laws and federal laws. Most states require that if you sell (retail) more than 5 cars in a one year period that you have a dealers license or if you wholesale any number of cars that you have a wholesalers license (you need to look up and contact your state DMV to find out exactly what their individual requirements are as they do vary).
