Craigslist has a whole lot more to offer you then your local newspaper classifieds could ever dream of. Just think of how much it would cost to place numerous 1/8 or quarter page full color pictures along with almost unlimited words to describe the car or truck you are selling. It would probably cost a fortune - especially on the weekends where it would probably cost over $1000 depending upon your local newspaper's rates. The amazing thing is you actually get more visitors or traffic with the Craigslist ad (which is free by the way) then the newspaper classifieds.
So, obviously, Craigslist is definitely a resource that you need to look into and try, especially if you are trying to sell a car or truck. Now, to get the maximum impact from your ad on craigslist make sure you take good quality pictures. Remember to kind of try and limit the background environment which means don't go and take pictures with lots of garbage or on your car or in a bad area, etc. try and get pictures with good lighting that will show the positive sides of your car, but also be sure and take good pictures of things that may be wrong with your car that way people don't come out to look at what they thought was a brand-new or nearly new car and instead see a jalopy. Also, do not use other people's pictures of their car or cars and say that they are yours. Take real pictures of your own car or truck.
If there are areas of your car there in better shape than most other similar cars be sure and highlight the senior pictures and then talk about it in your ad or post. For instance, if the leather interior on your car is immaculate and has been very well cared for the sure and include several pictures of the seats or door inserts or without her which will convey to the reader that your interior really is in great shape. Another good tip here is if you have service records for the car and have had it regularly serviced then have a picture taken or several pictures taken with all the service records showing so that the reader can see the evidence that you did take great care of your vehicle.

Another good tip is to clean up the trunk and then take a picture of your trunk showing that its clean. This little tip can bring buyers that are on the edge knocking at your door cash in hand. If there's anything that you have done recently to your vehicle like putting new tires on the sure and take a picture of that and may be show a coin in the grooves showing how much wear is left in the tires. Now you don't want to overload the ad with too many pictures, a good number is anywhere between five and 20. This will all depend upon the condition of your vehicle, what it is you're actually selling (obviously big rigs and specialty trucks may have more unique items and may need more pictures to show these), and how quickly you want to sell it.
As for wording, just basically tell the truth. If you had the oil changed every 3500 miles then state that, but be ready to back it up with documentation. You should always keep receipts and documentation of any services you do for your vehicles. From oil changes to new tires, and brake repairs to air-conditioning, wheel alignment's, etc. When I was selling cars for a living I can't tell you how important it was to have complete service records for a vehicle. A car that had all the service records always sold faster than those that did not. So, for future reference, get a Manila folder or file folder in every time you get your car serviced put the receipts in this folder and keep in a safe place. When it comes time to sell your car or truck that same service receipts folder will end up being worth several hundred to even a thousand dollars or more in added resale value. The reason here is simple as people will pay more money for a car that they know has been well kept and cared for.

Now when writing about your vehicle be sure and describe the pictures and why you chose those pictures and then stick to the facts. Try not to be too long-winded and cover the basics like how long you've owned the car or truck in question, the care you've taken for it, where you've had it serviced regularly, recent parts you've had replaced or fixed, etc. then another great tip is to go and pull a Carfax or Accu check online. Either one of these will do a complete vehicle identification number or Vin number lookup and will spell out any potential problems. If your car has a clean Carfax or Accu check, then by all means include it in your posting or at least include a link to it in your craigslist ad. A clean Carfax or Vin number check will put a lot of minds at ease and definitely make someone feel much more comfortable in buying or purchasing your vehicle (this is why most car dealers use Carfax's or Accu checks).
Now be sure and put your phone number, cell phone number or home number or business number on the ad - just put a contact phone number on there where you can be reached in your craigslist car ad. You would not believe the number of people that instead of putting a contact number use the craigslist generic e-mail contact which actually cost you around 90% of the actual traffic that you should instead get. Most people searching craigslist will take the time to call a phone number but will not take the time to look up the e-mail and e-mail you through an anonymous looking e-mail contact. So be sure and put a valid phone number on there.

Now to increase the traffic to your craigslist ad for your vehicle you can also link to it from your websites, from other people's websites by commenting on other peoples blogs and create links to it, etc. just be sure and try to target local traffic because if you just target random, general traffic you'll get hits from people that are anywhere near where you're located and that will definitely not be buyers for your vehicle. For instance, if you are located in Miami Florida and someone sees your craigslist ad from Portland Oregon the odds are they're not going to be a buyer for your vehicle. Now, if you are selling a classic or rare vehicle then that can change things and maybe you want to include potential buyers from farther away locations.
Another piece of advice here is do not spam craigslist with multiple ads or postings of your vehicle for sale on a daily basis. Craigslist does not like spamming and neither do the readers and users of craigslist. If you do do this you may end up getting flagged off, suspended or even banned. Since craigslist is such a high volume and trafficked site you probably don't want this to happen. Also, don't go flagging off other people's heads thinking that you'll get more buyers by getting rid of the competition. This is not nice and they will only do the same back to you. Play fair, don't lie in your listings, use accurate pictures and good, effective lighting and you will see far greater results than you could ever imagine and your local newspaper classifieds.
