The only problem with satellite radio is the cost, we’ve already said that the actual setup costs of purchasing the equipment is not that much more expensive than a standard car radio, but you also have to subscribe to one of the car radio service providers on a monthly basis. There are currently two main satellite radio providers here in the states, there is XM satellite radio or Sirius satellite radio, the two offer very similar services and are pretty competitive on price. You must also pay a one off fee to activate your satellite radio service, but look out for the special offers where free activation is offered. Activation is not a huge sum of money, but it’s worth saving whatever you can!

You don’t have to limit satellite radio to your car, you can also get a satellite radio receiver for your home, and you can even listen to it using your computer.  If you buy a standard car radio then chances are it can also at least play cassettes, if not CD’s it’s very rare to find a radio that can only listen to the radio nowadays. However satellite radio is not like that, you can buy a satellite radio that is just capable of listening to satellite radio. The added selection of music may mean that you don’t need a CD, but if you want a CD player then you have to be prepared to pay more.
