Like many things in your vehicle headlight bulbs do not last indefinitely. They burn at extremely high temperatures and are subjected to daily vibrations as you drive along uneven streets and through potholes and more. It is not uncommon to have a headlight bulb burst or just go dead. How do you know this happened? Well, it's usually quite obvious as you will see your nighttime vision will be greatly reduced and you'll be able to see that one side or the other is out. You can also leave lights on and get out and take a look at the front of your vehicle and then deftly see for yourself which headlight bulb is out.
Once you've determined which headlight bulbs out pop your hood and look at the back of the modular headlight assembly. For most modern cars there'll be two bulbs one for high beams and one for low beams. For most cars you will be able to remove the headlight bulbs and replace them without removing the modular headlight assembly. Some cars may have such a tight fit and squeeze that you may need to remove the modular headlamp assembly to be able to access and remove the bulbs.
If you need to remove the modular headlamp assembly it is usually quite easy and only a few screws or bolts hold it in. Be careful not to mess with the adjustments for aiming and calibration as this will redirect your headlights and make them less effective. Also it can be fairly costly to get your headlights recalibrated at your local car dealership. Once you have access to the headlight bulbs they are easy to remove and are usually just locked in with a turn to the right. So just reverse this and do a turn to the left and they'll pull right out. When installing the new headlamp bulbs be sure not to touch the bulb glass with your fingers as the oil in your fingers will adhere to the glass and will cause points of heat differentiation which will cause the bulb to deteriorate or even burst. Be sure and use a clean towel when handling the new headlight bulb.
