If you watch TV then you have probably already seen or heard about the new automotive TV show Overhaulin’.  It’s an amazing show where they take a “victim’s” car and restore it incredibly under the tutelage of the legendary Chip Foose.  These cars usually start off as a shell or a work in progress that was probably never going to get finished or not any time soon.  Then one week later they are revealed as an amazing, fully restored and semi custom masterpiece from the paint and interior to the engine.

The Overhaulin’ cars, at completion, are virtual museum pieces.  You couldn’t get a similar customization and restoration for under several hundred thousand dollars.  They really are that nice.  Now, what happens in the show is that after a car and “victim” are selected the crew from Overhaulin’ takes the “victim’s” car, shell of a car, car parts and whatever and takes them back to their garage where they start to work on them.  Meanwhile a few of the Overhaulin’ staff make it seem to the victim that they had their car stolen.

They really play this game well as posing as policemen and detectives and making regular phone calls so the victim doesn’t grow suspect of what is really going on.  Sometimes they almost over play it and the “victim” almost figures it out.  Some times you have to wonder if the victim did already catch on and doesn’t want to spoil the fun.  Regardless, the whole time this is going on the folks at the garage including Chip Foose are overhauling the car.  First Chip Foose creates a legendary design for the restoration.

Most of the time they want it to have that classic look with a little customization and modernization.  They take into account from the “victim’s” significant other what their tastes and preferences are like color schemes, etc…  After this is all planned out the crew breaks into groups and while one is pulling out the engine and transmission another is doing body work on the car and another group is ripping out the interior.

When the restoration project is almost done at the end of the week, the “victim” is called and lured back to the garage/warehouse they are working out of under the ruse that they have found his stolen car.  So he shows up and is met by the Overhaulin’ crew and they play the police and detectives right up to the last minute and when the supposed thief is revealed it is either Chip Foose or one of the Overhaulin’ cast.  The “victim” is told that he has been overhauled and they take him into the garage where he sees his magnificently restored car and usually comes to tears (tears of joy, not sorrow).  I have not seen all of the shows, but the rebuilds and restorations I have seen by the Overhaulin’ crew and Chip Foose have all been first class all the way.  The cars are all one-of-a-kind masterpieces – great show.
