GM and America finally gain ground in vehicle quality

For years now it has become common knowledge that imports like Honda and Toyota were just simply superior to American made cars.  This fact has helped fuel an import craze that continues today.  People are willing to pay more for a less equipped vehicle just because it is a Honda or Toyota.  On Oct. 9^th that all changed.

In the annual vehicle value survey Honda Motor Company was still the one to beat, but GM (General Motors) beat out Toyota 4 to 3.  It is interesting to note that Toyota was the leader in previous years.  Hyundai has also made some very impressive gains with their Optima and the new Azerra.

These numbers were part of a study by Strategic Vision Inc. and involved a survey of over 60,000 new car owners after their initial 90 days of ownership.  The purpose was to determine the level of satisfaction the buyer had with their purchase.  The basic desired outcome was to see if they felt they got their moneys worth or not.  It is interesting to note that while GM owners were pretty much happy with their purchases, not one Ford or Chrysler model placed well.  Maybe Ford with its ever occurring financial woes and sales problems could learn from GM and Honda and make better quality cars and trucks that their buyers would be happier with.

It appears that lately Toyota has become complacent and doing such has allowed other manufacturers like GM, Hyundai and other innovators to come right in and steal market share.  In the automotive business it is a basic equation:

Quality = Happy Customers = More sales and higher profits

Hyundai understood this and took a bottom startup company and turned it into a very serious competitor for the top in less than 10 years.  This is why it is hard to understand why Ford is having such troubles and woes.  Ford is a multi-billion dollar operation and should be able to easily repeat whatever success Hyundai has.  Well, only time will tell if the new ceo can turn things around and if Ford will be here in the future as a contender or as a part of some other company that buys it out (or a merger in the case of GM?).
