If your car has a built in ABS (Anti Lock Braking) system, then you may need to depressurise the system before attempting to open the brake lines or replace any braking components (read the owners manual to confirm what is actually needed for your unique vehicle. Vehicles with fuel injection can have pressures up to 90psi in the fuel lines, never consider opening the fuel lines while the engine is still running. Even when the engine is off it can take hours for the pressure to dissipate, you should be cautious whenever opening the fuel lines, use a rag around the line that you are opening. Have a look in the owners manual for your car to find out how to correctly reduce the pressure in the fuel lines, to get this information you may need to look in the shop or owners manual which can probably be found on the internet.
