In the period between the 1980’s and 1990’s there were a lot of changes that were introduced in the styling and production of automobiles. Some were for styling and looks, others were more safety oriented. One of these changes was to go from glass headlights to plastic and composite headlight lens assemblies. Instead of the one piece glass bulb, now the headlights had a clear plastic lens, plastic housing and a much smaller screw in bulb. This was partly done because the plastic lenses are much more stylish, but also because they can withstand smaller impacts and collisions better.
Initially these new plastic headlight lenses were met with great reviews and fan fare. That was until they had been out in production and use for the first year or two. Complaints started to surface in the hundreds and then the thousands about the lenses becoming cloudy and opaque and severely limiting night time vision when this happened. Apparently what was happening was the clear plastic headlight lenses were degrading quickly and developing a rough, gritty surface that would not just wash away.
Cloudy and ugly headlight lenses are dangerous!
To combat this early degrading and oxidation of the plastic in the lenses companies like Chrysler, Ford and GM started using a UV (Ultra Violet light) protectant. This was basically akin to a clear coat on the cars paint. Its purpose was to prolong the usability and clarity of the clear plastic lens underneath. Well, as these new lenses were used and are still in use today, they did find it lasted on average a little longer, but in just a few years the lenses would start to become worn, cloudy and opaque once again. Now that almost every car has plastic or composite lenses, they have found literally millions and millions of cars with worn plastic lenses.
According to Triple A (AAA) and the institute for highway safety 9 out of every 10 cars on the road today have some degree of oxidation or cloudiness of the headlight lenses that makes them unsafe and actually a hazard for night time driving – not only can the driver not see, but other drivers cannot not see them. To see the number of cars out there with cloudy and unsafe headlight lenses just go to a nationwide staple – your local Walmart or grocery store and look at the cars in the parking lot. Look at all the cars with yellowed, cloudy, worn and unsafe lenses. They are literally everywhere. The condition is so prevalent and such a major factor in causing severe night time driving accidents that GM put out a service bulletin on it.

The manufacturers did not have a solution other than their UV coat and it wasn’t working. Then came a company named M.D. Wholesale (MDWholesale.com) with a patented solution to this problem – the New Lite headlight restoration kit. This headlight restoration process was first developed for use by government agencies and police and ambulance services. Then it was made into an easy DIY (Do It Yourself) kit for the consumer. This kit removed the grime and grit from plastic headlight lenses and restored them to new again in a simple manner that anyone can do (it even included instructions for dealing with acid rain etching and more severe wear). This not only made the lenses look good, but more importantly restored night time driving safety.
MDWholesale.com is the originator of the headlight restoration kit and it has been proven effective on all makes and models of cars, trucks, SUV’s, etc… They literally created the headlight restoration market and solved a major problem that had been plaguing millions of cars and a major factor in severe accidents. Their kit also has been found to save customers hundreds of dollars over replacement lenses from their local car dealer (the average replacement lens costs over $200 and some can reach as high as $400 per lens and that doesn’t include installation and calibration). So, in summary, headlight restoration can make your car or truck look better, save you money over replacements and, most importantly, give you added night time driving safety.
