Isn’t it amazing how many automotive cleaning and detailing products there are to choose from?  What products should you use.  There are products in all kinds of colors and containers and each states theirs is the best.  Some have fancy names and throw out terms like nano particles, citrus based cleaners and such.  Others state they are used on TV (that shouldn’t mean a whole lot as that just means it was in an infomercial). What should one really use and whom should they believe or more importantly what do the professional detailing experts use?

First off, the experts don’t use high dollar stuff (unless they are sponsored by that company and get it for free like in the case of NASCAR and the pit crews).  They stick with general degreasers and cleaners which can be bought cheaply at your local auto parts store, Walmart or online.  They buy it in concentrated form and then dilute it with water as needed.  For dirtier items they use a stronger concentration and for more fragile areas they use a weaker concentration.  For actual concentration and use recommendations it is best to purchase a detailing book which will explain the actual dilutions and such for each specific intended use.  A good multi use degreaser and cleaner is the Purple Stuff and similar solutions.  They can be purchased in gallon containers for between $5 and $10 or in larger bulk quantities at bigger discounts (bulk orders usually have to go through the manufacturer or main distributor).

Now, for detailing and such you don’t want to use a degreaser or strong cleaner as they will strip off the wax and polish and can dry out the finish on painted areas.  Instead you will want to use a specific quick detailing spray and many manufacturers offer this and you should be able to get one for around $5.  Detailing sprays are great for a quick clean up between washes and for spot detailing and they will not remove your car’s wax or polish.  There is no need for expensive name brand products or fancy ingredients as you will just be throwing your money away.
