Motorists normally prefer driving with HID lights because they have a brighter clearer beam and the light is much more natural. The white light has a shorter wavelength than the yellow light emitted from halogen bulbs, this allows the light to be much crisper.

The glare issue is partly solved with a self-levelling system which levels the headlights away from other drivers (this is why many HID lighting systems like the one on the Honda S2000 produce a line against a wall and the light only shines below this line).

HID lights are also used on the new super jumbo, and on many of the other airplanes that are in production today, they are also used for taxi lights on the runway so they can be seen in the worst of weather.

HID headlights are more of a problem for older drivers as their eyes are more sensitive to changes in light. Personally I hate driving at night, I wear glasses and the glare really gets to me. One piece of advice I have received is if the headlights are too bright you should look straight ahead or follow the lines on the side or middle of the road and not focus on the lights, or slightly to the side.

HID headlights as a rule are generally 300% brighter than any halogen bulb, they also use much less power than any traditional bulb. HID bulbs are also expected to last almost 4 times as long as a traditional halogen bulb. That’s about 2500 hours, now that’s a lot of driving!

If your car doesn’t have HID headlights already fitted, it’s likely to be possible to install an aftermarket kit. Who likes carrots when you can use xenon bulbs?

Drive carefully, and make sure you know where you’re going! If you can’t see then you could be in for a nasty surprise. There’s no point keeping your eyes open if you can’t see. Make sure you invest only in HID systems with the self levelling system if you don’t want any complaints from fellow motorists.
